Talk about a great backyard. From home plate to your home would only be a few hundred feet away. The owners of the original Field of Dreams movie site in Iowa is putting the property up for sale. Don and Becky Lansing stated they love the land, which has been in the family for more than a century, “but it is time for us to head to the locker room,” said Don.
The movie was based on the book “Shoeless Joe” and starred Kevin Costner, who plays an Iowa corn farmer that after hearing voices, interprets them as a sign to build a baseball diamond in his fields. Universal Studios built the diamond in 1988 in just a few days but the Lansings have preserved it for guests and maintained the land themselves.
The site is a highly visited tourist spot of both movie and baseball fans. The closest town, Dyersville also has benefited greatly financially from the millions of tourists that flock to the area since the premier of the movie over twenty years ago.
The entire property sale includes the original baseball diamond from the movie, six outbuildings, a 2 story house and 193 acres of land. The price has not yet been listed for the property by the Lansings.
