If you plan on taking advantage of the $8,000 first-time homeowner tax credit, you better hurry. The deadline is this Friday, April 30th. It’s the final day that buyers will be able to qualify for either the $8,000 first-time owner or the $6,500 current homeowner plan.
You can see if you qualify for the tax credit here.
In November of 2009, the current Obama administration extended the tax credit, but it doesn’t look like it will be extended again unless they move fast. Originally, the homeowner credit was put on the books as part of the federal stimulus package of 2009 and while most agents agree that it hasn’t made buyers out of non-buyers, it has sweetened the deal for closing on a home.
