5 Tips to Makeover your LinkedIn Profile

With over 160 Million profiles, what makes yours stand out amongst other LinkedIn users? Think about your skills, your current and past roles, your audience and how you want to share this with the millions online. If you don’t know how to strengthen your online presence, especially for business, here are a few tips to help the busy business folks take a step forward.

1. Make the most of your Headline!

This is one of the first things people notice when previewing your profile. Employers will be influenced by the headline and will be eager to learn more about you depending on how you position yourself. This is you saying “here’s what I can do for you”. You will stand out amongst other potential hires and will have many more eyes on you.

2. Take a Professional Headshot!

You need to see the importance in this. In today’s technologically advanced social network, 6 degrees of separation is now in the form of Facebook, Instagram, etc. with that said, a photo puts a face behind the words on your profile. Show people who you are and help them feel like a connection is still tangible. This way, people feel more comfortable to contact and approach you. Plus, who doesn’t like a photo shoot.

3. Share your past Experience!

Where you’ve been and what you know makes you who you are today. It’s a lot on the tongue but it’s true (in my opinion). According to LinkedIn you are 12 times more likely to get “pinged” for opportunities when you list more than one position and/or past experience. So take a moment, look at your resume and be sure to add in as much history as you can.

4. Move around sections of your Profile!

Spend some time reviewing your profile and move around the sections to best position you the way you want to be seen. For example, if you are new licensee, be sure to move that to the top of your profile so your connections can see that first.

5. Update your Profile!

Be sure keep your profile updated with any new certifications, skills, position changes, contact information and anything new you are doing. Keep up with this like you would any other social site. It’s key to keep people in the loop with your professional life so in the event an opportunity arises, you’re on their mind.

You still need to reach out to people and stay connected. Having your profile in tip top shape will get you closer toward tangible connections.
