Back in 2008 it was reported that Oprah Winfrey’s BFF Gayle King purchased a 3 bed, 3.5 bath apartment in Manhattan’s Midtown tower called Place 57 for $7.1 million. But with a little LLC sleuthing it seems that Oprah was the actual buyer.
See, when a celebrity wants to purchase a house, they most likely want to keep it under wraps so not everyone in the world know where they actually live. To do this, they create a Limited Liability Company or LLC to purchase the home. It becomes an added protection for a celeb’s privacy. A celebrity will likely find someone like a manager, lawyer or unknown friend to become a trustee that in turn sets up a blind trust. The trust is the owner of the property and the trustee is the lesser known individual. In this case, possibly Gayle King.
No one is for certain who actually lived there, but they were definitely living it up in this 36th floor penthouse! It features 2,530 square feet with a triangled living room, walk-in closets, and spectacular views with a private balcony.
So start saving up because this will put you back nearly $30k a month after a 20% down payment on a 30 year mortgage!
