Silent film star Charlie Chaplin’s former home for sale.
The Spanish-style house was built for silent film star Charlie Chaplin in 1926. The property is located in the Sunset Strip area.
Chaplin co-founded United Artists in 1919, alongside D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks. When Chaplin lived in this house, in the 1920s, he was approaching the height of his career. He stared in “The Great Dictator,” “Modern Times,” and “City Lights” after his home was built.
The totally restored and updated home was owned by actor Robert Downey Jr. in the 1990s and later by Kelly Osbourne. Downey Jr. played Chaplin in the 1992 movie “Chaplin” and according to Hollywood legend, Downey Jr. bought the property to help him get into character.
The 2,728 square foot house in the Hollywood Hills has three bedrooms and five bathrooms. The master suite is two stories (a possible add on) and includes high ceilings, a number of closets, dual bathrooms, and a sitting area. The house has the original beamed ceiling in the living room. There are French doors that open to a patio off of the dining room.
The home and its Hollywood legacy are priced at $1,725,000.
