1. Yamashiro Farmers Market
May 24 to September 6

The hilltop marketplace next to one of Hollywood’s most visible landmarks is officially back for the summer. Though there are some produce sellers, vendors mostly offer prepared foods from a roster of tasty spots. There’s valet parking, but also a free shuttle from the bottom of the hill, says LA Weekly. The Wednesday night market is a solid contender for the LA farmers market with the best view.
2. Twilight Concert Series at Santa Monica Pier
June 22 to August 17 (no concert July 6)
7 p.m.
The series on the sand is having its inaugural run with a new, slightly shorter schedule designed to help Santa Monica cut back on the hefty security costs that come with hosting an incredibly popular public concert series. The quality of the shows remains high, though. Local indie rock band Warpaint is headlining one of the eight shows.
3. Jazz at LACMA
April through November

Jazz at the Miracle Mile museum is an institution, running for more than two decades. With shows on Friday and Saturday evenings, a little jazz in the outdoors, alongside fantastic architecture, is a great way to unwind after a long week. Upcoming shows include East LA native, trumpeter Dr. Bobby Rodriguez. Bring a picnic—most people do!
4. Friday Night Flicks at Pershing Square
July 14 to August 18
Movies start after sunset
There is no shortage of outdoor movies in Los Angeles, but this one is free, central, and in a park that’s lined up for a major makeover.
Mark your calendars for this one: The annual Friday night film screenings at Pershing Square will return to the park in July. According to Pershing Square’s website, this year’s selections are action-packed and apocalyptic, like The Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise, and zombie film World War Z.
5. Off the 405 at the Getty Center
Until August 26
6 p.m.
For all those on the Westside who don’t want to slog too far on a cool summer night, there’s Off the 405, a summer concert series at the Richard Meier-designed Getty Center. The unwavering hip lineup—White Fence, La Luz—ends at a reasonable 9 p.m. on Saturday nights, a perfect jumping off point for a late night or a prelude to tucking in early.
